Our Story
Zen’s Kitchen first opened summer 2016 after many months of transforming a 1969 caravan into a fully commercial kitchen that can make…almost anything. It’s named after Zen, the owner and chef. Originally from the Czech Republic he came to New Zealand 13 years ago, loved it and never left.
He has been working as a chef for over twenty years. From small ski chalets in the hills of the Czech Republic, to the 5 star Prestonfield house Hotel in Edinburg and some of our Wellington favourites Fidel’s café and Commonsense Organics to name a few.
Zen first became interested in Vegan food during his time in Edinburg, but it wasn’t until living in Dunedin that the idea of running his own vegan food caravan was seeded.
Fast-forward to the present day in the small south Island town of Murchison we are happy to be embarking on our eighth season. Thanks to some good old neighbourly help, local support and a lot of hard work, we are happy to be providing locals and traveller alike with real, organic where possible, quality plant based food.
It’s a small family run business..
